iphone

Yes, I was one of the millions of people that stood in line on Friday morning.  I got there at 5:15am-ish and waited patiently until 8am.  I was about number 30, so, I was in and out by 8:40am-ish.  Well, as you probably guessed (as many of us did), I played with my new toy all weekend.

Well I have to say, my first iPhone experience was not necessarily a pleasant one.

Let me try and explain.

First, I will be doing a short series on my experience with this new toy and hopefully some videos on how do some of the things I found.

Second, let me start by saying, that this new toy is AWESOME!!  The only thing I don’t like is the keyboard, other than that… it ROCKS!!

Third, even though the Microsoft Exchange piece is easy to setup and works really well.  I highly recommend to anyone who going to use it… do not initialize the process until you have installed all of the applications you want on to your iPhone, first.

I say this from my recent experience…  I am not saying this is the case for everyone, but this happened to me.

On Friday, I immediately initialized my Exchange on my iPhone and my email started flowing right away… YAY

After that, I hooked it up to my MacBook Pro (after I installed iTunes 7.7).  I stated by adding some applications right away.  Well, that caused all types of problems.  I installed Remote, Twitter, AIM, Google Apps, PhoneSaber, Light, Loopt, Flickr, Pandora and about two or three other apps. Well, it started rebooting about every 30 to 60 seconds.  So, I uninstalled all of the apps and started over… well, this took me all day Friday and part of morning on Saturday.  Then I finally gave up (after two full resets and data wipes).  I took it back to the Apple store.  They were very nice and exchanged it.

So, I took it home and started missing around with it again… well, guess what???  It started happening again.  I knew that it wasn’t the hardware (mostly)… I knew it had to be the software and/or configuration.  So, I started slowly (again - both on my Mac and PC), and initialized Exchange and installed one application.  Well, within 20 minutes, it started rebooting again.  So, I reset again.  Installed one application and then did the Exchange setup and it ran just fine for a couple hours.  So, I tempted fate and added couple more apps.  Well, it took about 10 minutes and it did it again… reboot city.  Mind you, these apps are nothing special, just the ones I mentioned above.  So, I thought just maybe I would add all the apps I wanted then initialize Exchange.  Well, that has been working for about 6 hours now and no reboots.

Crazy story, but it is mine :)

Well, I hope to have more stuff later on this week.

Enjoy your iPhone, if you have one… I know I will “tomorrow” :)

Today on MahaloDaily.com Loren Feldman of 1938media.com did a wonderful interview with the Puppets at Puppetolio.  Please check it out!!

Just wanted to take a minute and tell everyone who is RSS’ing to this blog, that I am sorry.  I have not posted in quite some time.  I have been extremely busy and I have gotten far behind in the Mahalo world.  I guess you can say I took a bit of a “vacation” from Mahalo after the VLOG Idol.  I poured a lot of energy in to that and I guess I was a little burned out.  Well, I am back in the game and I will be posting a lot more real soon.

To give you a little heads up.  I will be doing a computer video series on http://www.seesmic.com and posting some content on my connectedgeek.net sites.

NBC’s Tim Russert died on June 13, 2008. He was host of Meet the Press and served as a political analyst for NBC, including NBC Nightly News and The Today Show. He died from a sudden heart attack.

I know the title makes not sense at all, but I had to make fun of 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968).

Anyway, today I hit a milestone at Mahalo.

I have recommended 2002 website links to Mahalo.  It has only taken me 7 months to do so… and if my calculations are correct, I should not do this for a living :)

So… it took 7 months, right? Well, that is approximately 210 days (30 days per month).  That would be about 9.5 links per day.  Averaging 2 minutes per link, equaling approximately 66 hours.  Now if you calculate that time - to be paid $10.00 an hour (like C.K. stated on his blog) I would only get $660.  So, I think I will keep my day job.

Now that I have met the milestone I wanted to accomplish, what’s next?

Well, I haven’t done anything in the greenhouse yet? hmmmmm.

Thanks for the fun…  4000 here I come :)

Ok, I am trying something new (again)… this time, it is a Seesmic/Mahalo/ConnectedGeek.net conversation :)

Enjoy

Jason Calacanis posted today that he was running for President!

Well, I am going to run too :)

http://www.calacanis.com/2008/06/09/calacanis-08/

Here are some pictures I got of the Red Wings WIN the Stanley Cup 2008 in Detroit, MI.

Jason Calacanis is probably the smartest human on earth!

He created a company called Mahalo.com - The Human Power Search Engine, where you can do re-search.  At this company/site, you can search for all types of information (from Paris Hotels to iPhones).  You will get a well defined - curated page with accurate links and a short (well thought out) Guide Note.

Mahalo also has an VLOG called MahaloDaily.com.  This site began right after Mahalo came on to the Internet scene.  It was hosted by Veronica Belmont.  Veronica came from CNET and she brought a ton of followers.  MahaloDaily.com did very well with her at the helm.  Veronica (as most of you may know) moved on to Tekzilla with Patrick Norton.  This was a good move to her, since she did haven’t to travel as much.

Well, as you may have guessed, Mahalo needed a new host for MahaloDaily.com…  So, about two months ago, Jason Calacanis opened up his UStream.tv account and told the Internet that he was in search of a new host for MahaloDaily.com.  Well (yes I said well again), that started a series of events that took a boat load people out to sea, dropped off about 88 of them and came back to shore where there was a bunch of happy, crazy and angry people.  What I am trying to say is… that for the past two months Jason and the Mahalo team have given the followers of Mahalo and MahaloDaily.com a very bumpy ride!

To see the happiness, craziness and angry-ness, check out these sites (make sure you read the comments):

Mahalo Vlog Idol: a success or failure?
Author: Andy DeSoto

Ok… now that the history lesson is over…

So, here we are today.  After much suspense, Jason and the Mahalo team have finally picked a new host…. Leah D’Emilio  along with Lon Harris.  Also, Jason stated that Andrea Rene will stay on as a correspondent.  We wish her all the best!!

Now, if you made it this far in to the post and your not completely bored.  The next section is what I really wanted to say…

BTW… if you haven’t already figured it out, I suck at writing and I say “so”, “well” and “…” a lot.  It’s just my writing style, sorry.

Moving on… why did Jason and the Mahalo team go about picking a new host for MahaloDaily.com this way???  Well, that is a good question!  One reason (in my opinion), PEOPLE.  Jason wants people (or the P.C. thing to say is, community).  But, why?  Well, I think he will do anything to get people to come to Mahalo.  I know all of this a quite obvious and you are probably wondering why I am babbling on about it…  Well, I truly think that Jason has a good heart and he really wants to stand behind what Mahalo is trying to do… “We’re here to help.“.  I think he is community driven and doing this Mahalo VLOG Idol, The Bachelon, Episode 1 and The Mapprentice, Episode 1 were just a way to get people in the door at Mahalo.com.  Don’t get me wrong, I know producing these shows and working with people’s schedules is a nightmare.  However, all of the drama and the “who is going to be kicked off” reality show style episodes, did nothing but bring more people to Mahalo.  You know, I don’t work for Mahalo and I don’t know what type of traffic Mahalo got during this contest; however, I do know that the comments on the VLOG Idol blogs were a flurry!

I guess my point is… (yes, after making you wait this long, sorry)… Jason and the Mahalo team are on a mission and since it is to help and they need people to give that help too (and make a few dollars along the way :) ).  They just need to make the boat ride more fun next time and maybe they can keep it to a three hour tour instead ;)
